Tell us about yourself and your company.
Courtney Clark, owner of Cake Nouveau. We are a custom cake and cupcake shop in Ann Arbor. Cake is all we do! I attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago before moving on to the French Pastry School in Chicago. It's such a joy to be able to combine art and pastry!

How did you get started?

I actually started the business in my apartment in Chicago, quickly ran out of money and moved home to Ann Arbor. I worked out of my home while working as a pastry chef for a catering company. After three years I opened our retail cake shop. Three and a half years later we have built a brand new facility that opened May 19.

What's the best part about your job?

Definitely being around cake all day. We never get sick of it, and we sample it all day!

What sets you apart from others in your industry?

I think my style sets me apart. We have a very distinct story-book, whimsical style and we try to bring a lot of color and fun into each design.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I was actually a gymnast for almost 20 years, even into my first two years of college.
